Find Duplicates scans a folder and groups files that are byte-for-byte identical by MD5 hash — so you can reclaim disk space without guessing which copies to keep. The scan runs entirely on your device; nothing about your files is sent anywhere.
Each group shows the duplicate files and their size so you can delete the extras. For near-identical photos (same shot, different size or format) there is also Visual Duplicates — a perceptual match, not just a hash.
How To Use Find Duplicates Offline
- Open Find Duplicates — Under File Tools, or search "duplicates" with ⌘/Ctrl+K.
- Pick the folder to scan — Choose the directory — the scan walks it recursively, hashing every file.
- Review the groups — Identical files are grouped by hash with their sizes — pick the copies to remove.
- Clean up — Delete the extras. Moving duplicates in bulk is a Pro feature; finding them is free.

Good to know
- Replace source is ON by default — it overwrites originals with no backup. Turn it off in Settings › General to keep both.
- Hash matching finds exact duplicates only — a resized or re-edited photo is a different file. Use Visual Duplicates for near-matches.
- Bulk move of duplicates is a Pro feature; scanning and review are free.

Tips
- Start with Downloads and photo folders — that is where duplicates pile up.
- A duplicate is only worth deleting when you are sure it is a true copy — hash matches are byte-identical, so they are safe.
- Pair with Find Large Files to reclaim the most space the fastest.
Frequently asked questions
How does it decide two files are duplicates?
