Redact Content permanently removes sensitive information from a PDF — names, ID numbers, account details, addresses — by blacking out and rasterizing the affected areas. Unlike a highlight or a cover-up box someone can lift off, real redaction makes the text unrecoverable.

How To Use Redact Content Offline
- Open Redact Content — Under PDF Tools, or search "redact" with ⌘/Ctrl+K. For automatic PII removal use Auto-Redact PII under Privacy Tools.
- Mark the areas to remove — Draw rectangles over each sensitive area. The regions are burned into the page permanently.
- Process — The affected pages are rasterized — the text under the boxes is destroyed, not just hidden.
- Verify — Run Verify Redaction (Privacy Tools) to confirm no sensitive text is still extractable.

- Redaction rasterizes the affected pages — text on those pages is no longer selectable.
- Auto-Redact PII is a Pro feature; manual redaction is free.
- Replace source is ON by default — redacting in place overwrites the unredacted original. Turn it off to keep both.

Tips
- Use Auto-Redact PII for documents full of emails, phone numbers or card numbers — it finds them all.
- Always Verify Redaction before sending: copying text out of a properly redacted file returns nothing.
- Redact a copy — keep the original for your records if you may need it.
