Remove metadata from photos and PDFs
Remove metadata from a photo or PDF before you share it — EXIF, GPS, camera details, author and timestamps — one file or a whole batch at once.
To remove metadata from a photo or PDF, drop it on Privacy › Strip Metadata — the app rewrites each file with its hidden fields emptied, for one file or a whole drop of them. It covers EXIF and GPS data in photos and the document-info fields in PDFs, so what you share carries only what you can see.
Protect your originals first
Replace source is ON by default: the output overwrites the original file and no backup is kept. Before following along, open Settings › General and turn Replace source off, or pick a separate output folder.
What gets removed
Photos (JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, HEIC). The image is decoded, straightened to its stored orientation, and re-encoded without a metadata block — that drops EXIF fields like camera model, shutter settings, creation timestamps and GPS coordinates, along with any XMP or ICC profile data. A HEIC photo is decoded into a standard format (HEIC can only be read, not written), so the cleaned file may change format while keeping the image.
PDFs. PDF Metadata Remover clears the document properties — Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer — and resets the creation and modification dates. The page content itself is untouched; this is metadata removal, not redaction (see below).

Check before you share
- Drop the photo on View EXIF to see exactly what it records — location is the field that surprises people.
- Run Strip Metadata on the whole batch.
- For files that also need text-level edits — a name inside the PDF body, not just its properties — metadata removal is not enough; use Detect PII and Auto-Redact instead.
Metadata removal only empties declared fields. Anything visible on the page or baked into the image — a name in the letterhead, a face in the photo — stays, and OCR-able scans are still readable.
