Turn a video into an animated GIF offline with 1FileTool — drop a clip on MP4 to GIF and a palette-optimised .gif lands in your output folder. The reverse direction exists too: GIF to MP4 converts an animated GIF into a shareable video.
Protect your originals first
Replace source is ON by default: the output overwrites the original file and no backup is kept. Before following along, open Settings › General and turn Replace source off, or pick a separate output folder.
Convert a clip
- Open Video Tools › MP4 to GIF (tool page) — MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV and WebM all drop in.
- Set Resolution — a width in pixels, e.g.
480for a chat-friendly GIF. The fields read Width and Height; leave one side empty to keep the aspect ratio. - Run it. The result lands as
<name>.gifnext to the source (converters show Put converted file at same location).
Keeping the GIF small
GIFs are enormous for what they show — every frame is an indexed-colour image. The converter runs a two-pass palette step (palettegen → paletteuse) so colours stay crisp for the size, but the real size lever is width: halving the pixel width roughly quarters the file. Trim the clip first (Trim Video) if you only need a few seconds — GIF runtime is the other multiplier.
GIF to MP4
GIF to MP4 wraps an animated GIF into a proper MP4 — smaller file, playable anywhere, pausable. Handy when a platform won't take GIF but will take video.
