Remove image backgrounds offline in 1FileTool — a ~178 MB AI model downloads once, then every removal runs entirely on your Mac with no upload. It lives in AI Tools › Background Removal.
Protect your originals first
Replace source is ON by default: the output overwrites the original file and no backup is kept. Before following along, open Settings › General and turn Replace source off, or pick a separate output folder.
First run: download the model
The first time you open Background Removal, the tool shows a Download button — the model isn't bundled because it would make the app huge. Click it once; from then on the tool works fully offline. The tool's own text says it: "The background-removal model is not installed yet. Download it once, then it works fully offline."
Remove a background
- Drop an image — or a folder of them for a batch.
- Pick the background: transparent, white, or a custom color.
- Press Remove background. The result is a PNG (transparency needs it) in your output location.
Limits to know
- Free tier: the button reads "Remove background at 512px" — the result is scaled to 512px on its long edge. Pro removes at full resolution.
- People and product photos with a clear subject work best. Busy scenes where the subject blends into the backdrop will show ragged edges.
- Like every AI tool in the app, the page notes "Every model here runs on this Mac. The first run downloads it once, then works offline."
