Free tier note: without a license the tool processes a preview — outputs are capped at 512 px on the long edge and named *_no_bg_preview.png. Pro keeps full resolution and names them *_no_bg.png.

Protect your originals first

Replace source is ON by default: the output overwrites the original file and no backup is kept. Before following along, open Settings › General and turn Replace source off, or pick a separate output folder.

This tool never overwrites anyway — it always writes new PNGs to your output folder, and the Replace-source toggle is hidden for it. The warning matters everywhere else.

Steps

1. Download the cutout model

Open AI Tools › Background Removal. If this is your first run, the tool shows Cutout model needed — press Download model (~170.4 MB) and let it finish. Once it reads Offline cutout model ready, the tool never needs the network again.

2. Drop the product photos

Drop all eight product-*.jpg files onto the zone ("Drop image files here"). The run button reads Remove background at 512px (8 files) on the free tier, or Remove background (8 files) with Pro.

3. Pick a background

In the options, set Background to Transparent, White, Black or Custom (with a color picker). Transparent produces the standard cut-out PNG most shops want.

4. Run

Press the run button. A progress line shows "Removing background…" per file; finished rows appear one by one. Cancel is available mid-run.

5. Collect the PNGs

Reveal in Finder opens the output folder: product-mug_no_bg.png (or …_no_bg_preview.png on free) — eight PNGs, transparent background, ready to drop into a listing or layout.

The result

A folder of consistent cut-outs from one drop — no per-photo lasso work. On the free tier each output is capped at a 512 px long edge, which is plenty for thumbnails and mockups; Pro removes the cap and the daily file limit.

If it didn't work

"Download the background-removal model first" — the one-time download hasn't run; press Download model on the tool screen.
Outputs look low-res: that's the free preview — capped at 512 px. The result card says so after every run ("That was a 512px preview…"); Pro unlocks full resolution.
A file was skipped: check it's one of JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, AVIF or BMP — the drop zone lists the same set.
The download stalled: pause and retry from the same screen; the card shows live progress and a cancel button.
